Greenville, SC
Design of an approximately 1,400 SF affordable house that features solar voltaic power production, super insulated walls and roof, an insulated crawlspace, an airtight building envelope, high efficiency mechanical equipment and lighting, which produces more energy than it consumes.
The house was a collaborative project that succeeded through volunteers and donations. The project was conceived by Bob Barreto, CEO of GBS Building Supplies. The land parcel was donated by Jim Childress of Genesis Homes, a local affordable housing developer. The house concept was designed by Clemson University students in Professor Ulrike Heine’s studio. The solar voltaic system was donated by the City of Greenville and installed by Palmetto Renewable LLC. The general contractor was Carolina Green Builders.
Group 1.6 fine-tuned the design and produced the construction documents.
